About Us

Berlin artist Sarai started her wood art journey in 2020 when she founded the Studio Sarai brand. Her husband Paul joined the business shortly after, and together the couple design and create geometric wood mosaics from their Fremantle studio on the Australian West Coast.

“Our work is deeply inspired by the breathtaking Australian landscapes. We draw inspiration from the sunny coastal living, the serene rural life, and the profound connection Australians have with their beautiful land. The colours we incorporate reflect the blues of the ocean, the greens and earthy hues of the majestic rain forests and wide fields, the warm sandy tones of the outback, and the vibrant palettes of the native flora and fauna.”

Inspired by the organic patterns found in nature, Sarai and Paul use various types of timber with different grain and texture to create their iconic geometric designs. Every artwork leaves the subject open to interpretation: Where one sees the silhouette of a bird, another might see landscapes, flowers, the soft arches of rainbows or glimpses of the rising and setting sun.

Each artwork is carefully handcrafted with a focus on using locally sourced materials, including recycled and salvaged timber. The intricate patterns and puzzles evolve during the building process, making every design an original and unique piece of art.
